Each year Accounting Technicians Ireland (ATI) members and students decide to continue their career progression by studying with Chartered Accountants Ireland.
The Institute recognises the skills gained studying to become an Accounting Technicians.
Accounting Technicians Ireland is a great option for school-leavers or people in the workforce who may not have a formal qualification wanting to progress their careers.
Accounting Technicians benefit from Exemptions
Accounting Technicians who completed their exams from 2009 onwards may be exempt from 3 out of 5 papers of our first year, CAP1, exams – Financial Accounting, Taxation and Law for Accountants.
These exemptions apply to people who have satisfactorily passed the Accounting Technicians Ireland exams – you do not need to have gained your professional experience.
Exemptions are subject to a time limit of ten years from undergraduate/accounting technician qualification. The remaining CAP1 subjects, Management Accounting and Finance, build on the Accounting Technicians Ireland curriculum.

Option 1: Enrol with Accounting Technicians Ireland and complete a 2-year part-time course. Once completed, you apply to Chartered Accountants Ireland to continue your studies with the prospect of exemptions.
Option 2: A shorter alternative is to gain a Merit grade in the Year 1 Accounting Technicians exams and go directly into Chartered Accountants Ireland’s to continue your studies. If you do this, you will sit all five modules in CAP 1.
